Why we built it
Most IELTS candidates now sit the test on a computer. Yet most practice material still comes as a PDF or a printed book. Reading on paper and reading on a split screen are not the same skill, and neither is typing an essay against a word counter and a clock. We wanted a place where anyone could rehearse under the same conditions, without paying for a course.
What you can do here
- Practise all four modules. Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking, in an interface modelled on the real computer-delivered test.
- Choose your pace. Practice Mode is untimed and gives hints. Exam Mode is timed, just like test day.
- Check your answers properly. Our Reading and Listening answer pages explain why each answer is right, not just what it is.
- Use the free tools. The band score calculator, listening audio library and study materials hub need no account.
- Talk to a real person. Our speaking partner service matches you with volunteers who use English every day.
Who is behind it
Prep IELTS Now is run by a small team of people who have taken IELTS ourselves and who work with English-speaking clients every day. Our speaking partners are volunteers based in the UK, Italy and Bangladesh.
Independence
Prep IELTS Now is an independent practice site. We are not connected to, or endorsed by, the British Council, IDP IELTS or Cambridge University Press & Assessment, who jointly own the IELTS test. "IELTS" is their trademark. Band scores you get here are estimates to guide your study, not official results.
How the site is funded
Prep IELTS Now is completely free to use. There is no paid plan, no trial and nothing to buy: every practice test, answer explanation and tool on the site costs nothing, and you never need to add a card. To keep it that way, some public pages show advertising. Ads never appear inside the practice tests or your account area.
